The most important thing to remember about your honeymoon is that it shouldn’t be stressful.   You want to be sure everything is taken care of for you so you can concentrate on the wedding.  Even if you are the super-planner type, try not to sweat the details.  Pick a vacation that’s within your budget, and go with it.

Some advise.. be sure you honeymoon in a place both halves of the couple will like.   Seems obvious, doesn’t it?   Believe it or not, sometimes a sun-loving spouse plans a beachy honeymoon of his/her dreams, when their significant other can’t take the sun and has to stay covered all the time.  Makes for not the best of times for the non sun-lover.   Whatever you plan, be sure your spouse is looking forward to it too!

The most common place to have a honeymoon is Disney World.   I actually considered this for myself.   Since we wanted our honeymoon to be special, and we cruised regularly, we couldn’t figure out how another cruise could “set itself apart” enough.    In the end, we did something else, but Disney is always a happy option.   They have lots of honeymoon packages available.  And its great that there is an east coast and a west coast option.

Another thing the brides-to-be see all the time at bridal shows is the all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean, like Sandals.  These are a really nice option if you like the beachy, sunshine type of vacation.   They’re a good value, all inclusive of the alcohol, which is a great plus for many.    However, remember if you are getting married in mid-summer you are right in the middle of hurricane season.   This might not be the best time of the year for the Caribbean.

Hawaii is an always popular choice as well, or Europe, but I think my honeymoon destination was the “dreamiest”.   My husband and I went to Tahiti for a week.   It's like Hawaii in the old days before commercialization (so they say).   The resorts there are breath-taking.   The “postcard perfect” over the water bungalows you see on calendars are there.   And the water is warm and beautiful… fabulous.   We chose a cruise (but of course!), as we still wanted a good value for our $$, and we wanted to see multiple islands.   And, it was far enough away to make it a real “special” place we’ll dream about returning to for a future anniversary, but not something that we'll be tempted to hop on over to every single day.

We sailed on the Wind Star sailing cruise, which was a much smaller ship and a totally different experience from our usual “mainstream” cruises.  We loved it and you can read about it in the reviews section.  There ARE some good valued land vacation packages as well, some of which give you a few nights on a couple different islands.   I think these would be very worthwhile if you didn’t want to cruise.    The most beautiful island is Moorea, and the most beautiful lagoon is Bora Bora.  So, if you see just two islands in Tahiti, make it these two.   Tahiti is in the same time zone as Hawaii, but south of the Equator.  The flight is about 8 hours direct from Los Angeles International, and some very nice airlines do the flight.
